Bah humbug!

Hope you all enjoyed your free massage on Support Staff Day. Unless like most, you did not have 15 minutes of free time to indulge.

In the past, parapros began the school year a day early to review duties, schedules, IEP’s, meet new staff, and prepare for student arrival. In exchange, we had the ability to leave early on the half days before Thanksgiving and Spring Break. This option is no longer available to us, and we are thrown into the “lions den” on the first day of school, often without knowledge of the students we are serving.

Luckily, student supervisors did get a day or two of training, giving them the opportunity to leave early and use comp time.

It is a shame that those of us who had travel plans needed to change them. And for those busy, tired moms that can’t afford a house keeper….sorry.

SUBJECT:​Thanksgiving Holiday

Historically, the day before Thanksgiving students and certified staff attend school on a shortened day schedule.

For the upcoming Thanksgiving break, we are providing you the option, with supervisor approval, to work a shortened schedule, similar to the certified staff, on Wednesday November 27, 2013. This shortened schedule means ending your work day three hours earlier than your normal workday. If you choose this option, we are asking that you make arrangements with your immediate supervisor to either use already accrued compensatory time or if you do not have the compensatory time to use then to make up these three hours between now and the end of the school year.

Again, the intention is to give the support staff the option of ending the work day three hours earlier than their normal end of work day time on the day before Thanksgiving. So, if you normally leave at 3:30 p.m., then 12:30 p.m. would be your new end of day; 4:00 p.m. then 1:00 p.m. would be your new end of day.

In any case, you still must coordinate your leave with your direct supervisor and turn in a time sheet at some point before the end of the school year making up the three hours.


Subject: Working Hours on 11/27

Good Morning,

I want to follow up with everyone regarding the e-mail you received this morning from (HR) about working hours on 11/27/13.

Unfortunately, in our department, we do not have projects for which comp time can be earned and then used. As a result, you will need to work your normal hours on 11/27 (i.e. 7:45 – 3:15)

You will follow your normal schedule from 7:45 – 11:30 when students are dismissed. You can take your lunch break from 11:30 – 12:00. From 12:00 – 3:15 we will have department support tasks for you to complete. Please check in with Marty at 12:00 to find out what tasks we need support with.
