There were some rumors last week about comments that were possibly made during the Special Ed Department (certified) meeting last Wednesday. A few of the rumors are that, “an outside agency is coming in to observe us”, “teachers need to write down what we do to justify the need for us”, and, “they are cutting our days”.
As far as we know, there will be an evaluation of the special education department. This isn’t unusual in the business world, and it will probably look at how we are meeting student needs, fiscal responsibility, efficiency, etc. It will either be a self-assessment, or hopefully, be done by an UNBIASED, professional agency. This is probably a good thing, especially if an outside agency observes what we do and then compares our pay scale to other area schools.
Until we get more information, it is important not to jump to conclusions. As said before, the superintendent has been made aware of our unionizing campaign. We don’t believe this is a scare tactic because that would not be legal. As far as targeting certain people…well, it wouldn’t be the first time.
